Granted, poor ‘lil Abby is not aware that Zach freakin’ blew up New York City and plunged the world into thermonuclear war and a subsequent nuclear winter, but she still has to deal with the fact that Zach, history’s most prolific murderer, has a thing for her. Poor little Abby must not only clean up Zach’s pizza crusts and skid-marked underwear, she must also deal with his clumsy come ons.
That’s right, little Zack Goodweather has been hit with Cupid’s arrow and has fallen for a young lady conscripted to be his maid. Women herded and forced to become incubator for future strigoi meals. When fans see the insides of this facility, the consequences of this strigoi world really hits home. Shit man, that’s some messed up stuff right there- a human run breeding facility designed to keep the strigoi’s food supply running strong for generations? Yikes, I say. Who can forget when Eichhorst imprisoned Dutch and force fed her pineapple while threatening her with all sorts of Nazi vampire sexual depravity? This week was a call back to that episode (which still makes me squirm- heck, Dutch even references the pineapple this week causing my sphincter to pucker) as Dutch is taken to a strigoi baby factory and forced to become pregnant in order to maintain the strigoi’s herd of humans. Now it is Eph and Fet that must fight back against the reign of the vampire as they must become modern day Setrakians to defeat the Master and free the nation from being the food supply of the strigoi. Now, Eph and Fet are living in similar conditions that Setrakian resisted so long ago. Some of the strongest moments of The Strain have long been the flashbacks to Setrakian’s past living under and fighting the Third Reich. We are now watching a dystopian reality, and yeah, the politics are really heavy handed but corruption and the price of blinding following one’s leaders has long been a theme of the series.
